Things Your Skin Hates. Are You Aware of Them?

Has it ever happened that your face turned dull, very dry or irritated and you had no idea what caused it? This is a common problem because people don’t know what may harm their skins. There are quite a few foes and you should definitely get to know them.

What should you avoid during daily struggles to get a flawless complexion? It’s high time you learnt to avoid a situation when a small thing spoils all efforts you’ve been putting into your day-to-day skin care. Below you can find the things your skin hates, making it very dry, irritated and dull-looking even though you care for it every day the same way!

THINGS THAT YOUR SKIN HATES

1. Face wash using water alone or water with soap.

Anything that is alkaline harms our skin because the skin’s natural environment is acidic. That is why washing the face with water or water and alkaline soap is a big mistake. The damage is milder if you follow with a good serum and moisturiser but people often forget that. It’ s great to reach out for face cleansers and keep the pH balance, using products rich in citrus extracts, lactic acid, etc.

2. Over-enthusiastic towel-drying.

When you were a child, you probably heard your mum saying to dry the face well and give it a healthy blush. Now, we are aware that harsh towel-drying is not nice either for us or for our skin. This activity leads to premature skin aging because the skin is stretched and loses elasticity. To avoid exposing the skin to unwanted irritations, you need to dry it gently, particularly the face skin – a muslin cloth gently pressed to the skin will do.

3. Sleeping with make-up residue on.

Everybody knows that sleeping with make-up on is a bad thing. No matter how tired you are, taking it off is a must before sleep. Unfortunately, sometimes you don’t remove make-up fully and this is another thing that the skin hates. Pencil residue on the water line, mascara clumps, lipstick in the lip corners or foundation removed carelessly – this is what makes skin age faster and gives us acne.

4. Lack of sun protection.

If you can’t see something it doesn’t mean that it doesn’t exist, which is true about the UV radiation, for example. It’s much talked about but people still downplay its harmful effect on the skin. And the effect is really powerful. It causes photo-aging, that is faster aging caused by the sunlight. Without a UV filter, the skin loses water and plumpness. To avoid premature wrinkles, get SPF-rich moisturizer or vitamin C face serum which is a natural shield against the damaging radiation.

5. Giving up on a moisturizer for a face serum.

This is a mistake! Serum isn’t a replacement for a moisturizer – they work together for a better complexion. Ditching a moisturizer and using serum alone is a thing that your skin hates. Why? Serum deeply penetrates the skin transporting highly-concentrated ingredients in a lightweight form. If you don’t apply a moisturizer next, the skin loses them as fast as it receives them. This doesn’t make sense. So, if you want your superb serum to really work, you always need to apply a thin coat of a favorite cream next.

6. Bold daytime make-up.

Super-bold make-up, or several layers of products, is another thing that the skin hates. Remember that the skin likes to breathe while tons of cosmetics make it way harder because they contain, for example, silicones congesting the pores and disturbing the proper functioning. Applying bold make-up is okay if you do it from time to time but it gives you problems – like acne – if you do it on a daily basis. If you’re a make-up junkie, go for natural and mineral products based on quality substances, plus ones that give desired effect after you apply one coating.
